The Syracuse Orange improved to 3-4 on the 2021 season as Chrislyn Carr poured in 20 points to lead the Orange. The visiting Colgate Raiders led for the first seven minutes of the game, but it was all Syracuse after that.

The game opened with a few sloppy possessions from Syracuse and Colgate’s Jenna Paul, who finished with 11 points, carried her team to an early 12-6 advantage. The Orange answered resoundingly as they outscored Colgate 16 to six to close out the opening quarter.

In the second quarter, SU raced to a double-digit lead by holding the Raiders to just two made field goals in the first five minutes. Najé Murray and Carr each splashed a three-pointer and Teisha Hyman picked up a pair of steals during the dominant 14-2 stretch for the Orange.

“I have the full trust of my teammates,” Carr said. “Tonight, I had a groove and let the plays come to me.”

Syracuse's acting head coach Vonn Read is now 3-4 leading the Orange women's team.

Colgate kept pace briefly in the second half and cut the deficit to 18. But Carr delivered big-time buckets for the Orange as she did all night. A key sequence began with a blocked shot from Alaysia Styles and quickly turned into a fast break, capped off by a Carr driving layup. The energy in the building returned and Colgate never trailed by fewer than 20 again.

“This team showed poise and character, even after the opening punch from Colgate,” acting head coach Vonn Read said after the game. The Orange absorbed the initial blow from the Raiders, then never looked back.

Up next for the Orange is a date with undefeated Ohio State on Wednesday at the Dome for the BIG 10/ACC Challenge.
